The Monthly Clearance Group (月光族 )
Some single white collar worker in this city actually work pretty much the same way as their North America counter parts. They survive from paycheck to pay check; some still lives at home after their first job.
Young ladies will spend their pay checks on clothing, shoes, handbags, or they frequent high end eateries, foot massages parlors, saving are just not in their daily vocabulary.
Hence the coined phrase “ Monthly Clearance” – 月光 rhymes with “clear by the month” in Chinese, it is a bit of local humor. Now that is not to say all young people are like that, a lot of young people send monies home to support the family back home where prospects are few, and life is hard.
